The Coffin Dodgers was unofficially formed in December 2021 when Phil Hynes sent his nephew, Martyn to meet Steve ‘The Wizard’ Foster at his workshop in East Anglia to fine tune his newly purchased 1984 Pontiac Trans-Am. Martyn had always wanted to join his Uncle who owned a 1960 Oldsmobile at American car shows and that was their plan for 2022.
Phil and Steve had been childhood friends since 1960 and Phil regularly attended American car meets with Steve.
Having arrived at the Wizard’s residence in December 2021, Martyn had the pleasure of meeting Nigel and Mike both of whom owned classic American cars. Nigel and Mike, both knowing Phil immediately welcomed Martyn, later introducing him to Nigel and Valdis.
Tragically in 2022, Phil passed away suddenly. His family and friends were left devastated. In 2022, Martyn, with Steve, Nige, Mike, Nigel and Valdis attended car shows across the UK, becoming close friends. In December 2022, all of them received a personalised varsity jacket with the coffin dodgers logo on and their name.
Throughout 2023, Mike was regularly asked if the Coffin Dodgers were a car club whilst wearing his trademark Coffin Dodgers red jacket and cap.
In 2024, the Coffin Dodgers became official. Our page, and social media feed exists to bring together all those with a love for classic American cars and hot-rods in order to showcase some of the finest examples of American automotive history.
